Dog Friendly Vacations

Here we are in Asheville at the hotel overlooking the mountains So we have all been there, you want to take a little get away vacation but don't want to leave your pups at home. It is a hassle to deal with pet sitters and kennels, so it is the best of both worlds when you can take a vacation and bring your best friend along. Your mind is at ease and you can experience relaxation and new experiences along with your best friend. I went on 2 great weekend trips over the summer to Asheville, NC and Chattanooga, TN and both towns were amazingly pet friendly with great sights to see and places to be.

In Asheville, NC we stayed at Hotel Indigo http://www.blogger.com/www.hotelindigo.com/ashevillencwhich is a 4 star hotel lovated in downtown Asheville, NC. The porch afforded us with a magnificent view of the mountains and the downtown views, but we were right in the action of the downtown scene. The hotel staff were very charming, and they offered dog treats to our pups each time we came through the lobby. Asheville is known for its local culinary delights, and we were able to eat at the early girl eatery http://www.blogger.com/www.earlygirleatery.com and tons of other great places within walking distance. We also visit a great gallery every time we visit Asheville called the New Morning gallery. They have local pottery and other art and craft pieces. They allow pets in the gallery and showe http://www.blogger.com/www.newmorninggallerync.com/r them with treats and lots of love . The staff is crazy for pets and they it is a great place to find one of a kind pieces for your home.

In Chattanooga, TN we stayed at the historic Read House which is located in downtown chattanooga. There are a few great parks to take your pups to, and a lot of the local shops along Frazier Avenue allow pets into the stores. We walked around the charming downtown that sits along the Tennessee River and overlooks the mountains. It is just a short across the walking bridge to Frazier Avenue and we were able to visit the Bon a petit dog bakery and some of the other great shops.

If you are taking your pups on the road this fall be sure to do the following before hitting the road:

- Call ahead and make sure the hotel is pet friendly. Asses the likelihood that you will be able to bring your pets with you in the shops and eateries on your trip.

- plan ahead as much as possible with reservations and plans

- pack all of your pets food, bowls, a few toys. a bed, have plan for the times you will be leaving him behind in the hotel such as a kennel

- Plan enough time to make some stops along the way for potty breaks and to let your pup have a break.

- Have fun!

Dog park safety tips

The weather is beautiful, the heat is on, and summer is here! It is the perfect time to take your pup to the dog park for some summer fun. It is always great to get some excercise, catch up with good friends and have lots of fun, but keep in mind that every dog owner needs to be alert and aware to keep your pup safe and happy when playing at the dog park. Follow these simple safety tips to make sure everyone stays healthy and happy!

* Before you take your pup to the park check it out by yourself to make sure it is on the up and up

*Make sure your pup is well socialized and ready for an environment with lots of other outgoing dogs

* If it is your first trip to the dog park, take your pup during a time that is not peak hours so he can get used to it without all the hustle and bustle of lots of pups around, then build up to taking him during busy hours.

* Make sure your pup is up to date on his shots

* always be alert and pay attention, do not get distracted or bring other activities that pull your attention elsewhere such as reading or texting

* remove your dog's leash as soon as you enter the park because often if one dog is on a leash and others are not it leads to leash agression

* Be sure to keep a water bowl on hand to keep your pup hydrated, better yet bring along a water bowl tote bag that you can carry your toys, keys and other necessities to the park in and can be easily converted to a dog water bowl when thirst strikes. * most importantly have a great time with your pup:)

All Spring Collection Collars will feature sturdy, stylish nickel buckles and hardware with many cute styles to choose from. We will be offering seersucker galore with many different seersucker color selections and fun grosgrain ribbons to tie the stylish couture together for a preppy, spunky style. When the warm weather is here to stay, these collars are a must have for your pup's spring wardrobe. A Lollipup Christmas!!
